Business cards have been a staple in the professional world for decades, but times are changing. As technology advances, the need for traditional business cards is becoming less and less. In 2023, modern alternatives to business cards are becoming increasingly popular, offering businesses more options to market themselves.
Squark Design recently created a poll on LinkedIn asking ‘Do you still use physical business cards?’ The following results came in:
53% said they no longer use physical business cards
41% said they did still use physical business cards
6% said they use other options.
We looked at 3 of the modern alternatives to traditional business cards. These include digital business cards, social media business cards, and email signature business cards. Let’s have a look at these in a bit more detail…
Digital business cards
Digital business cards are digital versions of traditional business cards that can be shared electronically. They usually include the same information as a traditional business card and can be stored electronically for convenience. Digital business cards are a great option for businesses that want to save money and reduce their environmental impact.
Social Media Business Cards
Social media business cards are business cards that are specifically tailored for social media platforms. They include the same information as a traditional business card, as well as links to the business’s various social media accounts. Social media business cards can be a great way to draw attention to a business’s social media presence.
Email Signature Business Cards
Email signature business cards are business cards that are included in the signature line of an email. They are typically a condensed version of a traditional business card and include the business’s contact information and any relevant links. Email signature business cards are a great way to ensure that customers have easy access to the business’s contact information.
Which option is right for me?
When choosing the best option for your brand, it is important to consider the needs of your customers and how they prefer to receive information. If your customers are tech–savvy, digital business cards might be a great option. If they are more likely to connect with you on social media, then a social media business card may be the best choice. If they prefer to receive contact information through email, then an email signature business card is probably the best option.
Whether you choose to stick with a physical business card or go with a digital version, it is important to make sure that the information is up to date and accurate. It is also important to ensure that you are using the same design across all platforms, so that customers can easily recognise your brand.
